Harmony Public Library
Unattended Children Policy
Mission Statement:
The Harmony Public Library will provide access to various types of materials as well as programs and services that meet the educational and recreational needs of the community
Purpose:
The Harmony Public Library is not responsible for children left unattended in the library or on library grounds.
If a child under the age of 8 is found in the library unattended, the librarian will contact the parent or guardian and request someone come and pick up the child. If the child’s parent or guardian cannot be found or reached, law enforcement will be contacted. The librarian will stay with the child until law enforcement comes.
A child under the age of 8 must be accompanied by at least a 14-year-old or older caregiver or parent/guardian who will be responsible for them in the library.
Children the age of 8 or older may be left unattended, at the discretion of the parent/caregiver. However, children this age and older are held to the same standards of behavior as all patrons.
